We have been offering a bush kinder program at St Pauls for over 10 years. Our program is based on the principals of forest schools in Scandinavia, where education is supplemented with the environment as a teacher. In the program, children are encouraged to explore the benefits of instructed play. They make up their own games, developing their communication, negotiation, social skills and imagination. Children enjoy building huts with sticks, unknowingly developing their STEM skills by using trial and error.
They challenge themselves with climbing using their core strength and large muscle groups, essential for reading and writing. Educators facilitate their resilience and growth mindset skills by encouraging children and lending a hand when needed. Children also begin to understand large concepts like water conservation and sustainability.
Prior to attending bush kinder we have incursions on dog safety awareness, Wild action attends kinder to teach children about the different insects they will see in the bush and how to manage them. We have an information night for families prior to our first Bush kinder excursion.
